Carlton Wine Room

Carlton Wine Room is a neighbourhood bistro and bar on the corner of Faraday and Drummond Streets in Carlton, housed in a striking 19th-century building and spread across five levels including a marble bar, two dining rooms and three private spaces. Co-owned by Travis Howe and Andy Joy, the venue is built around a simple but compelling philosophy: food that works with wine. The kitchen produces fresh, seasonal bistro cooking with European leanings, from anchovy toast and oysters through to whole fish and half a kilo of O'Connor scotch fillet. The wine list runs to around 100 curated lines with a gentle Italian lean, backed by a cellar of 300-plus bottles and one of the best by-the-glass selections in Melbourne.
